Writing for New Media

Olivia Obineme, 2010.

Writing for New Media (MCOM 407) is an upper level class at Towson University for mass communication juniors and seniors. So, it only came by surprise that Dr. Spaulding, who was the professor of the course, asked me –a sophomore at the time– if I would like to join the class. I was the youngest student in the room, but I worked just as hard –even harder– as the upperclassmen.

MCOM 407 was a special topics course, where we as a class covered the topic: Baltimore City homelessness. The class was set up to be a newsroom, where we had editor-in-chiefs, section editors, copy editors, photographers and reporters.

For our final project, we created a website containing all of our stories.

Living under the radar

I also participated in an experiment, being homeless for 24 hours.

This is my story on the experience.
