The WMJF-TV membership is the largest this year, more than any of the 15 years of the stations existence, with more than 100 members –and they seem to have more than enough ideas to change the station around.

“In my early years at the station, it seemed as though there were very few members and every member had to wear many hats in productions of their own shows as well as others,”   President Michael Nannetti said.

“Now we have so many members, people can be centralized to a specific task or field that they are interested in –a “go to” person when you need help with a certain aspect,” he said.

Nannetti, a senior EMF major, has been a member of the station since his freshman year in 2006 and he said there are problems that limit WMJF-TVs potential, including a lack of viewership.

“We don’t really have a lot of avenues for people to see our product.  Right now, our main pathway to the viewing public is through cable,” Nannetti said.

Nannetti said limited time in the Media Center studio and members’ school and work schedules are also factors that are holding WMJF-TV from being the best it can be.

Nevertheless, members of the station are trying to change that.

“One way we are trying to change this landscape is to introduce many different pipelines for people to see us,” Nannetti said.

“That includes embedding our programming on video-hosting websites such as Vimeo and YouTube to make an almost “on-demand” way for students and Towson residence to view our programming if they happen to miss it on the broadcast time slot,” he said.

They have also increased their draw in the university by producing programs geared more to students, such as Outlook and Towson Tonight, which incorporate the University by asking for on-camera interviews as well as participation from students, Nannetti said.

Members are even in the process of creating a whole new website that will replace the old WMJF-TV site that has not been updated in 3 years.

Although there seems to be a lot of work ahead for the members in order to increase the success of the station,  there seems to be no confusion with what the station is.

“It is an organization that encourages creativity, trust, and quality in both our programming and how to act as a professional in the field of television broadcasting as well as print,” Nannetti said.
