WMJF-TV General Manager John MacKerron answers your questions about the station.
Q: Who started WMJF-TV?
JM: I did.
Q: What does WMJF stand for?
JM: Michigan J. Frog, the former mascot of the WB network. WMJF was the first WB network affiliate in Baltimore before it moved to WNUV, Channel 54.
Q: When was WMJF created?
JM: The idea of a campus TV station was created in the mid 1980’s as the TV version of the then student run radio station WCVT-FM, now WTMD-FM.
Q: Why have a television station on campus?
JM: The TV station was created to provide students the opportunity to apply production skills and techniques learned in the classroom while at the same time providing a valuable television channel serving the campus.
Q: What channel is WMJF-TV?
JM: WMJF broadcasts over the air on UHF Channel 16. On the campus cable system, WMJF is on Channel 68.
Q: Who make up the station?
JM: The station is a faculty supervised, student managed and operated station. There are two faculty involved with the station (MacKerron and Reiss.) The remainder of the management and staff are Towson University students.
Q: Who is the General Manager?
JM: I am.
Q: Who is the Executive Board?
JM: Matt Markowitz, President and Assistatant General Manager; Louis Vieira, VP for Programming; Jason Conti, VP for Production; Olivia Obineme, VP for Human Resources, Alex Rever, Treasurer.
Q: Is WMJF-TV affiliated with SGA or is it an independent medium?
JM: WMJF-TV is an SGA funded student group.
Q: How many shows does WMJF have?
JM: In addition to the continuous MTV2 program, WMJF broadcasts six educational programs for children and a number of locally produced shows including news, talk, sports, and student produced films.
